Fond Farewell
From our family...
To yours...
To yours...
Thank you so much for sharing your children with us for the past 6 weeks. We have loved getting know, learn, and play along side each of the them. We hope your camper had as much fun as we did. We wish you all a safe and happy rest of the summer and a wonderful school year.
This year marks the end of my eleven year journey at Camp Summer Fun. I have so many fond memories of my time here, and I am so thankful to have worked with so many incredible families and staff members. Camp is where I discovered my passion for working with children, where I tried out many of my ideas before entering the classroom, and where only my imagination could stop me when I brought many new ideas to camp as director. I would like to thank the Town of Mount Pleasant Department of Recreation and Parks for supporting me all these years.
I wish Ryan and the rest of the staff all the luck in continuing to grow Camp Summer Fun. I know they will carry on with the same enthusiasm that has been the hallmark of camp for many years.
Wishing you all my very best,
Joe

Color War Success
We had a great Color War Yesterday
The day started with cheer writing and a poster design contest. Check out the posters and teams below.
Then we paraded down to start the games.
In the morning campers competed in large games: Sideline Soccer, Capture the Flag, Hand Ball, Squirrel and Nuts, Dodgeball, and Nukem. Then after a lunch break and a counselor Knock Out Tournament, campers returned to the field for grade level relay races. Their was an Obstacle Course, Sponge Relay, Potato Sack Race, Over and Under Race, Hula Hoop Race, and the Broken Cup Relay.

The day ended with a Tug or War and a Cheer Off Competition. Counselors and campers came up with some really creative cheers for their teams. Congratulations to all. The Rainbow Rangers are still busy tallying up all the results...we will let you know when we have a winner. But most importantly we hope everyone had a great time!

REMINDER: Camp Show Tomorrow
The Camp Summer Fun Show is Tomorrow, August 5th at 10:00am at the Mount Pleasant Community Center. Please join us for a fun filled show.
Because of the show, there will be no swimming lessons tomorrow. However 1st grade campers will stay at the pool after the show for their regularly scheduled free swim.
Campers need not wear anything special for the show, unless counselors have communicated particular costumes their group is wearing for the show.
If you wish to pick up your camper after the show please send in a note. We will have designated sign out stations located in the hallway after the show.

Mission 4: Case Closed on the Blunder at the Big Top
Today all 12 of our groups figured out that Story specialist Gina stole the Ninja Turtle backpack from the carnival. It was returned to our winner to bring a happy ending to a week filled with excitement.
The carnival on Wednesday was amazing, but it wasn't the only fun we had. Campers have been busy preparing for the camp show in Music and Dance class.

We hope you can join us on Tuesday, August 5th at 10:00am at the Mount Pleasant Community Center for the Camp Summer Fun Show. There will be dancing, stop motion videos, and some special surprise performances.
We have also been busy preparing for Color War on Wednesday. In art campers continued to tie dye shirts...
In Sports and Game Room Claire, Mike and Mike have been practicing all the different games that will be a part of the competition. Be sure your camper wears his or her tie dye t-shirt and anything else that is their team's color on Wednesday.

Campers were also busy making stress balls in Science, and hearing stories about the circus and making book marks in Story Time. The week ended with a visit from musician and storyteller Lou Del Bianco (find his site here). Lou puts on a great show. He takes campers on a trip "Around the World" telling folktales from many different cultures while engaging campers in the storytelling. Here is a video of his trademark song sung with some help from some familiar faces.
Lou has been traveling to schools and camps for over 30 years. He has performed for thousands of kids. Today after the show Lou took me aside and told me he had never experienced a camp quite like ours with a staff that is so involved and enthusiastic. He told me that he believes our camp should be a model for other camp programs. He found it simply remarkable that when he asked if any counselors wanted to come up that so many of our staff rushed to the stage. The young men you see in the video are wonderful role models, helping create the fun filled atmosphere that permeates the grounds at Camp Summer Fun. I want to thank them, and all our counselors, for giving so much to our camp program. What we lack in fancy ropes courses, race tracks, lakes, robots and canoes we make up for in spades with the strength of our staff.
It is hard to believe that this upcoming week is our final week of camp. I hope you will join Ryan and I in thanking the counselors for their dedication to your campers happiness and wellbeing these past 5 weeks.
Best,
Joe and Ryan
Tie-Dye Tips
Hello Everyone,
Fabulous Tie-Dye shirts have been making their way home over the past few days. Here are some tips for washing them.
Fabulous Tie-Dye shirts have been making their way home over the past few days. Here are some tips for washing them.
- Rinse the T-Shirt in Water until the excess die is removed
- Remove the Rubber Bands
- Wash in the washer machine on the "large load" setting without any other clothing. Use hot water.
- Shirt can be air dried or dried in a machine (again by itself)
- The company recommends you wash the shirt separately the first few washes.
Remember to wear your shirt and anything else that color for our Color War coming up next Wednesday, August 6th!
