The carnival on Wednesday was amazing, but it wasn't the only fun we had. Campers have been busy preparing for the camp show in Music and Dance class.
We hope you can join us on Tuesday, August 5th at 10:00am at the Mount Pleasant Community Center for the Camp Summer Fun Show. There will be dancing, stop motion videos, and some special surprise performances.
We have also been busy preparing for Color War on Wednesday. In art campers continued to tie dye shirts...
In Sports and Game Room Claire, Mike and Mike have been practicing all the different games that will be a part of the competition. Be sure your camper wears his or her tie dye t-shirt and anything else that is their team's color on Wednesday.
The Bond Squad, The C.I.B, and The Fingerprinters are the Yellow Jackets Team
The Invisible Kids, The Private Eyes, and The 007's are the Blue Barracudas Team
The Ninja's, Pink Panthers, and C.I.A. are the Orange Iguanas Team
The Detectives, The Spy Kids, and The Undercover Campers are the Green Monkey Team
Campers were also busy making stress balls in Science, and hearing stories about the circus and making book marks in Story Time. The week ended with a visit from musician and storyteller Lou Del Bianco (find his site here). Lou puts on a great show. He takes campers on a trip "Around the World" telling folktales from many different cultures while engaging campers in the storytelling. Here is a video of his trademark song sung with some help from some familiar faces.
Lou has been traveling to schools and camps for over 30 years. He has performed for thousands of kids. Today after the show Lou took me aside and told me he had never experienced a camp quite like ours with a staff that is so involved and enthusiastic. He told me that he believes our camp should be a model for other camp programs. He found it simply remarkable that when he asked if any counselors wanted to come up that so many of our staff rushed to the stage. The young men you see in the video are wonderful role models, helping create the fun filled atmosphere that permeates the grounds at Camp Summer Fun. I want to thank them, and all our counselors, for giving so much to our camp program. What we lack in fancy ropes courses, race tracks, lakes, robots and canoes we make up for in spades with the strength of our staff.
It is hard to believe that this upcoming week is our final week of camp. I hope you will join Ryan and I in thanking the counselors for their dedication to your campers happiness and wellbeing these past 5 weeks.
Best,
Joe and Ryan
