CAMP SHOW TOMORROW!

As a reminder, our Camp Show will take place TOMORROW, July 28th at the Community Center.  The show will begin at 10 AM and should last about an hour or so.  This means that the second and third grade campers will NOT have swim lessons tomorrow.  First grade campers will stay at the pool for free swim after the show.

If you wish to take your child home after the show, please be sure to sign him/her out with one of our designated staff members.  We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Fourth Week in Review

There was a lot going on here at Camp Summer Fun last Friday!  More staff participated in Formal Friday.  Can you spot the different between these two pictures?

We were also entertained by the infamous Lou Del Bianco.  As you can see, he's one of the staff's favorite entertainers:

Friday afternoon, at our all camp meeting we began our Staff Lip-Sync Battle Competition.  In a tournament style competition, 26 staff members signed up to compete against one another to see who is the Lip Sync Champion.  Campers judge the competition by cheering on their favorite competitors.

More staff competed against one another again this afternoon.  Stay tuned for more videos and to see who will get crowned the lip sync champion!

A Trip to My Three Sons

Yesterday campers jumped around a jumping castle, entered "Balladium", played arcade games, laser tag AND won a variety of prizes at the My Three Sons arcade in Norwalk, Connecticut.  Campers also received a delicious slice of pizza for lunch. Check out some of the fun below!

From left to right: Music Matt, Sports Mike and Sports Phil enjoying the trip as well!

Next week we will be going on our second and last trip to the movie theatre in Mohegan Lake.  As soon as we know what movie we are seeing will be sure to let you know!

Reminders:
  • T-SHIRTS! If you'd like your camper to participate in tie-dye, please send him/her in with a white t-shirt in a ziploc bag labeled with his/her name and group number.
  • The camp show takes place next Tuesday, July 28th at the Community Center at 10 AM.  If you'd like to take your camper home after the show, staff will have sign-out sheets that you must sign before leaving. We look forward to seeing you there!

Throwback Tuesday to Formal Friday

Here's some of our staff starting a new "Formal Friday" tradition.  They clean up pretty nice!

Around the World on a Ferris Wheel!

Well Around the World week is off to a hot start!  Yesterday was crazy hat day as I'm sure many you may have noticed at drop off...

Congratulations to our two winners Lindy Albaum and Ava Lynch! After the dress-up contest at our all camp meeting, campers cheered on Sports Mike and Music Matt as they competed in a Lip-Sync Battle.  Now some of the counselors want in on the action!

Since it was so hot out yesterday, campers watched a movie in the gym which was air conditioned.  If the temperature does not drop, we will do the same this afternoon.

As a reminder we are going to the arcade My Three Sons on Wednesday! Please make sure your camper comes to camp on time in a camp shirt.

We're Halfway There!

We cannot believe that we are halfway through the camp season! This week campers took "a ride down the log flume", as it was water week here at Camp Summer Fun.  Campers created and participated in a variety of under the sea themed crafts and activities.

On Wednesday campers watched a play entitled Greedy Gracie Share the Happy.  Be sure to ask your camper what his or her favorite part was!  Since we were entertained with a play on Wednesday, we held Elective Wednesday on a Friday.  Campers were able to chose from NINE different electives including Winter Wonderland in July, Extreme Kickball, Dance Party, Home Run Derby, Knockout Tournament, Boxball Competition, Waterballoon Wars, A Day at the Spa and Music Video Making. Check out the pictures from some of them below:

Dance Party
Special thanks to Mrs. Capurso for coming in to run the Dance Party!

Home Run Derby

Knockout Tournament

Boxball Competition

Watermelon Wars

A Day at the Spa

Music Video Making

Not only were campers busy with electives this afternoon, campers were busy in the morning at our all camp meeting in which Music Matt and Sports Mike sang Under the Sea.  Then, after campers were introduced to our electives, the specialists and counselors led campers  in one of our favorite under the sea themed dances shown in the video below:

But wait... there's more! After the all camp meeting campers were surprised with more entertainment: Magic Dave!  Magic Dave amazed the campers with tricks of illusion and some mind reading.  Assistant Director, Isabella, assisted Magic Dave by opening a 300 page book to a random page and choosing one word.  Even she could not believe it when he guessed the right word, "coffeehouse".

TIE DYE NEXT WEEK!
Next week art specialist, Marisa, will be Tie Dying T-Shirts with your campers in preparation for the Camp Color War which takes place during week 6.  If you would like to make one please sent in a white T-Shirt in a Zip-loc bag with his or her name and group number on it.  You can also write their name on the tag or collar. We will send the shirt home when it is done!

As a reminder, next week's theme will be "Around the World" in which we will start the week off on Monday with Crazy Hat Day.  We look forward to seeing what sort of crazy hats your campers come in with!

Sneak Peek!

Music Matt and Camp EMT Bobby practiced some dance moves in preparation for today's morning all-camp meeting:

Campers will also be introduced to nine different electives to participate in this afternoon.  That's right... it's elective Wednesday (on a Friday).  Stay tuned for more pictures/videos of today's activities!

It's Water Week!

Water Week is off to a great start! At our all-camp meeting in the morning, campers learned the infamous "Baby Shark" cheer.  Many campers even dressed up for our Under the Sea dress up day.  Pictured below are our winners:

HALF-DAY PICK-UP REMINDER
Did you know that half-day is supposed to end at 12:05? Since cars line up so early, we have to pull campers out of their last special.  In order to give your campers a full camp experience, we will start bringing them out after their last special of the day.  Therefore, if you have a half-day camper, he or she will be dismissed around 12:05 PM each day.  Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation!

Safari Week In Review

To quote Music Matt, "Like the Ranger's post season, all good things must come to an end". So yesterday we ended Safari week with some entertainment from Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk:

Before Jonathan visited us, campers listened to Music Matt and Sports Mike sing "Hakuna Matata" at our all camp meeting.  Then counselors and specialists led campers in a dance to "Jungle Boogie" and the "Dinosaur Stomp":

Campers were also busy in specials all week participating in different activities and creating unique crafts.

In art, campers created colorful butterflies out of coffee filters and safari animals out of paper plates:

Down the hall in story, Jessica read the infamous book, Where the Wild Things Are to campers.  Then they wrote about what makes them wild:

In Science, campers colored, cut and put together human skeletons.  Then some groups learned about the Scientific Method before conducting their own experiment in which they determined which candies float and which candies sink in a pint of water:

In Music and Dance campers viewed the stop motion video created by campers last year in order to plan and prepare their own stop motion videos.  Each group even competed in a limbo contest.  The winner from each group then competed in an all-camp limbo contest at our meeting on Friday morning:

Here's last year's stop-motion video in case you missed it!

Down in the gym campers navigated through a jungle obstacle course, played kickball, sideline soccer and one of our favorite games, squirrel and nuts in Sports and Game Room:

We cannot believe that next week will already be the third week of camp!  Next week's theme will be "A Ride Down the Log Flume" also known as Water Week!  On Monday we will kick off water week with an Under the Sea Dress Up day. See you then!
